What the work actually consists of
“Reputation management” gets used loosely enough to be almost meaningless, so here is the concrete version. There is a set of results — roughly the first ten to twenty for your name — that constitutes your public reputation for practical purposes. Almost nobody looks further. The job is to make as many of those slots as possible be properties that are accurate, current and under your control, and to make the remainder be legitimate third-party coverage that reflects reality.
That breaks into four workstreams that run in parallel rather than in sequence.
1. Owned properties
Most organisations control far fewer ranking assets than they could. A properly built website, an active profile on the platforms that matter in your industry, professional directory listings, an author or executive bio page, a company blog that is actually updated — each of these can occupy a slot. They rank because search engines consider them relevant and authoritative for your name, which they genuinely are.
The mistake we see most often is a dozen abandoned profiles created years ago, half-filled and never touched since. These rank poorly and, when they do rank, they make you look inattentive. Consolidating down to a smaller number of genuinely maintained properties beats scattering yourself across thirty.
2. Earned coverage
Third-party coverage carries weight that self-published content does not, both with search engines and with the person reading it. This means legitimate placement: industry publications, local press, podcasts, professional association features, guest contributions where you have something real to say.
We do not buy links, run private blog networks, or place fabricated articles. Those tactics worked a decade ago, are now actively penalised, and leave you with a second problem layered on top of the first. If a firm is offering guaranteed placements at volume pricing, that is what they are selling.
3. Reviews
For most local and consumer-facing businesses, reviews are the reputation. A 3.4-star average with the most recent review eighteen months old reads worse than a 4.2 with reviews from last week, even though the number is higher. Recency and volume signal that a business is active and that the feedback is representative.
The fix is a working pipeline: asking satisfied customers at the right moment, making it genuinely easy for them, responding to criticism in a way that reads well to the next reader rather than to the complainant, and never fabricating reviews. Fake reviews are detectable, platforms penalise them, and getting caught converts a mediocre rating into a credibility problem.
4. Suppression
When something negative is ranking and cannot be removed, the remaining option is to displace it. This is slow, and it is the part of the industry most prone to overpromising. Moving a result from position three to position eleven is a genuine win — page two receives a small fraction of the clicks page one does. Moving a well-linked article on a major news domain may not be achievable at all.
We will tell you which situation you are in before you spend money, and we would rather lose the engagement than take a fee for work we expect to fail.
Who this is for
Businesses where trust drives the purchase — professional services, healthcare, home services, anything with a considered buying decision. Individuals whose name is their livelihood: executives, physicians, attorneys, consultants, anyone whose search results get read before a meeting.
It is also for organisations with no acute problem at all. Establishing a strong first page before you need one is substantially cheaper than repairing a weak one under pressure, and the work compounds.
What you can expect
An audit within the first week, documenting what currently ranks and our assessment of why. A written plan separating quick movement from long projects from things we think are not worth attacking. Monthly reporting against the actual search results — not vanity metrics about impressions. And an ongoing monitoring layer throughReputation Trax™so the next issue surfaces early.
If the problem is a single specific result rather than a general weakness, ourreputation repairservice is probably the better starting point.
